US Federal Census 1880 states that the family lived in Carlston, Freeborn County, Minnesota that year. The daughter Nettie was born 1883 in Itasca, Freeborn County, Minnesota. Minnesota Census 1885 states that the family still lived in Carlston, Freeborn County, Minnesota. Sometime between 1883 and 1887 the family moved to Fergus Falls since their oldest son lived there (Kenneth J. Johnson 2009). Aletta died in a car accident August 18, 1895 in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail, Minnesota. Nelson's second marriage Aletta and Nelson Norton had seven children: 1) Earl Everett (Everet Earl) Norton (b. Nov. 13, 1876 in Pickerel Lake, Freeborn County, Minnesota, d. Nov. 18, 1955). Earl owned and operated a store in Fergus Falls that sold electrical goods. He married Marie Knutson. Earl was a widower with no children source: Kenneth J. Johnson 2009). 2) Dwight Monroe Norton (b. August 31, 1878 in Pickeral Lake, Freeborn County, Minnesota, d. June 17, 1951 in Breckenridge, Wilkin, Minnesota). Dwight had a bakery in Breckenridge, Wilkin, Minnesota with the name Electric Made Bakery. Dwight married Mattie Hatch. Dwight is buried in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. 3) Clara Aletta Norton (b. August 4, 1880 in Pickeral Lake, Freeborn County, Minnesota, d. 1962). She married "Wm H. Ranger" (source: Johnson family pedigree chart). Clara lived in Breckenridge, Minnesota (source: Kenneth J. Johnson 2009). 4)
Nettie Mariah Norton (b. March 6, 1883 in Itasca, Freeborn County, Minnesota, d. September 24, 1957 in St. Paul, Minnesota). The spelling of her second name
is uncertain, another possible spellings: Maria or Mirah. 5) Nellie De Etta Norton (b. Oct. 19, 1887 in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, Minnesota). Source of Nellie De Etta name: Johnson family pedigree chart. Married to Mr. Andersson (first name unknown, last name can also have been spelled Anderson) who was a clerck working in a grocery store. No children. 6) Jane Austa Norton (b. Aug. 11, 1889 in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, Minnesota). Jane was married to Dave Crawford. The family lived in Fairmount, North Dakota. Dave had a top, very respected job as a locomotive engineer for the Soo Line. The legal official name was the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Sainte Marie Railroad. (Sault was French and pronounced “soo.”) The bioweek branch line David Crawford ran the steam engine locomotive on, went from Fairmount, North Dakota to the end of the line at Rosholt, South Dakota. Children: Their oldest son, Hal Crawford, became an insurance salesman. Their other son is thought to have been a mortician who operated a funeral parlor somewhere in New York State. Their oldest daughter, Ardis Crawford married a minister. Their middle daughter, Roberta Crawford married a baker who ran a bakery in Breckenbridge, Minnesota (same as Jane's brother Dwight). Their youngest daughter was Ila Crawford. 7) Harold Clyde Norton (b. April 24, 1895 in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, Minnesota). Fireman in Pueblo, Colorardo. |
